      Onyx mostly refers to the parallel banded variety of the silicate mineral chalcedony, as well as the Agate. Onyx is shaped of groups of chalcedony in exchanging hues. It is cryptocrystalline, comprising of fine intergrowths of the silica minerals quartz and moganite.

     

     Its groups are parallel to each other, instead of the more turbulent banding that regularly happens in agates.

      Designers have rediscovered the interesting effects that can be made with this particular geological material. The colors available are accentuated by the strong ribs and by the onyx's ability to be translucent, being recommended only for interior use: vertical cladding, interior flooring, decorative elements or decorative walls (thanks to its translucent properties, the light can be visible through it, thus enhancing the beauty and uniqueness of the material).

 

      The most important onyx careers are found in Turkey, Iran, USA, Mexico, Italy, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina, China and Tanzania.

 

      The most commercial types of onyx are: Onyx Sultano, Onyx Bianco, Onyx Cappuccino, Onyx Kilimanjaro, Onyx Nuvolato Red, Onyx Pink, Onyx Red Orientale, Onyx Verde Pakistano, Onyx Viola, Onyx Tiger, Onyx Glaciale and Onyx Pavone.
